Welcome to Freestate Nomads

No man is an island, entire of itself;

every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;…
Any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind;

and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
it tolls for thee.

Founder of Nomads SA, Mike Florance, had the foresight to establish a club with no fixed abode where like-minded golfers could get together once a month to enjoy each other’s company and at the same time raise money for those less fortunate and the furtherance of golf. In 1960 the Transvaal Nomads Club (now Gauteng Nomads) was established followed shortly by Natal in 1963 and Western Province in 1965. From there the concept spread like wildfire throughout the country and today the club comprises twelve clubs in South Africa, five clubs in Australia, three clubs in Zimbabwe, two clubs in the United Kingdom and one each in Botswana, Eswatini, New Zealand, Zambia.

Nomads is built on three fundamental principles;

  1. To play golf once a month with likeminded people, forging new friendships and cementing old ones.
  2. Through the vehicle of our Nomads National Andrew Mentis Endowment Fund help those less fortunate than ourselves.
  3. To promote the furtherance of golf by assisting Junior, Ladies and Disabled Golf as well as clubs who require assistance.
