On Sunday, 11 August, I was once again proud to be associated with Free State Nomads and their commitment to Junior Golf both in our province and on a national level. We were honoured to be the title sponsor for the annual Free State Nomads Junior Championship Tournament that brings together junior golfers from across the province for two days of competitive play and camaraderie.
The tournament was played at Schoeman Park Golf Club over 36 holes stroke play from Saturday, 10 August to Sunday 11 August.
This year’s event saw an impressive turnout of 76 young golfers, competing across age categories ranging from under-11 to under-19.
The overall winner, Xander Thompson, led the field after the first day with a two-shot advantage. However, the competition intensified on the second day, with many players closing in on his lead. Despite facing strong challenges after the turn on the final round, Xander managed to hold off his competitors and secure victory by three shots. It’s worth noting that Xander was competing in the Under-17 division, yet he not only won his category but also claimed the title of overall champion with a total score of 140 over the 36 holes played.
